Starting out
Can I sign up with Gmail or another free email address?
New accounts need a work or organization email. A university, school or nonprofit address is fine. Free addresses like Gmail or Yahoo can't start a new account. Sensemaking Studio is the exception: activate it with your book and any address. If someone invites you to their workspace, any address works there too. Don't have a work email? Talk with us at support@spryng.io.
What is Prompter?
Pick a collector. Prompt stories. See the pattern. Prompter is a free account. Add collectors from the Plaza; together they accept 100 stories a month. The unmetered stories add-on is $19.63/month. Generous media storage is subject to fair use. Talk with us for large or long-running studies. Finished collector designs are listed in the Plaza when they are published.
How do I get Sensemaking Studio free?
Free for 365 days with proof of book purchase. When it ends, you have 30 days of read-only access to export your data. Buy the ebook or the print (softcover) edition of Designing Sensemaking Studies (Palgrave Macmillan, 2026), then send us your order confirmation. Either edition counts. A person on our team reviews each request. Send a receipt on the Activate Studio page, or email support@spryng.io. Studio collects no card and does not convert to a paid plan on its own.
When should we choose Spryng Field Study over Praxis or Research Organization?
Choose Praxis if your team wants to design and facilitate studies independently (2 to 10 facilitator seats). Choose Spryng Field Study if you want Praxis for 6 seats for a year alongside design and facilitation support from Spryng to complete one full sensemaking study from instrument design to readout ($13,545.40; academic and nonprofit $11,241.40). Choose Research Organization if your institution requires uncapped capacity, custom data residency, procurement governance, or Spryng Care.
Teaching with the book?
Instructors use Praxis at the academic rate. Each student gets Studio free for a year with their own copy of the book.

How do I know which plan I am in?
Start with Prompter to use ready-made collectors from the Plaza for free (100 stories a month). For private, individual reflection, choose Personal Sensemaking. Running one story prompt across many people, each interpreting their own, is Inquiry. Facilitating teams, collaborative groups, or multiple clients with interactive rooms and pooled participants is Praxis. An institution that needs assurance or custom governance carried for it is Research Organization. Studio is the book’s free practice year.
Why are plans named for context rather than size?
Plans reflect individual practice, research, facilitation, or institutional work. Add-ons extend capabilities or capacity without changing your plan.
Is Spryng software or a service?
Spryng is software first. If you want help, we offer orientation and study-design support. Spryng Care is included with Research Organization. It is not sold separately and has no separate price. The instrument design service is $3,960.
Can we upgrade later?
Yes, and moving carries your instruments with you, enforcing the new plan’s caps. Studio to Praxis is only a cap change, so nothing migrates. Personal Sensemaking is intentionally private: wanting to ask other people questions is a change of mode rather than growth, so you would start Inquiry fresh.
Costs and billing
Is there an academic or nonprofit discount?
Accredited academic institutions and registered nonprofits: 50% off licence fees. That covers Inquiry, Praxis (academic Praxis is $774/yr), extra Praxis seats, extra sensors, the Cohorts Pack, the Participant pool, AI Pattern Synthesis, the Research Organization licence, and Research Organization admin seats. Academic and nonprofit: from $23,987.40/yr (50% off the licence; Spryng Care isn't discounted). Services, including Spryng Care, Spryng Advisory, pilots, and Instrument Design, are not discounted. The Event Pass, the Personal instrument-editing add-on, storage, and media credits are not discounted. One discount per order. It does not combine with another coupon or promotion code. Government bodies are not eligible. Eligibility is confirmed before purchase.
Can we pay via invoice, wire transfer, or corporate Purchase Order?
Invoice and purchase order billing is available for annual Inquiry and Praxis plans, and for Research Organization. Multi-year prepaid terms are available, with no annual price increase during the term. Monthly plans are billed monthly.
Can I upgrade from an Event Pass to an ongoing subscription?
Your $299 Event Pass fee is fully credited toward Praxis if you upgrade within 30 days. A full refund is available on request within 14 days of purchase if the pass has not been activated: no room opened and no participant response. There is no refund after activation. A refund voids the Praxis credit. A pass whose credit has been used cannot be refunded.
Need a grant-ready quote?
We provide a fixed-price PDF quote valid for 6 months, and multi-year prepaid terms with no annual price increase during the term.
Can I pause a subscription?
Monthly Inquiry and Praxis can pause for up to 3 months in any 12. Your workspace stays read-only, with export. Annual plans cannot pause.
How do annual renewals work?
Prices are in USD, plus applicable taxes. An annual plan renews each year until cancelled. Cancel anytime in account settings. We remind you 30 days before renewal.
What are add-ons?
Add-ons are scoped parts of the work, not separate plans or open-ended inclusions. They add live collection, continuity, advanced analysis, interpretation layers, shared review, follow-up inquiry, or governance to the right container when the work is ready.
Can I add more Sensors?
Each additional Inquiry Sensor follows your billing cycle: $49/month billed annually ($588/year), or $59/month on month-to-month billing. Additional Praxis Sensors are $39/month.
What happens if I exceed my limits?
You add a bundle — responses on Inquiry, participants on Praxis — or move to the plan that fits. We will not surprise you with hidden overage charges.
Teams and assurance
What is Spryng Care?
Spryng Care is onboarding, helpdesk, quarterly training, and ongoing optimization, with guidance on data-protection setup where needed. It is included and required with Research Organization, with no separate price or standalone purchase.
How is Spryng Advisory different from Spryng Care?
Spryng Advisory helps you apply Designing Sensemaking Studies with guidance from its authors: study design, collection, and analysis. Instrument design is a fixed-price advisory service at $3,960. Ongoing guidance is an optional annual add-on for annual Inquiry and Praxis, billed annually and priced separately by agreed scope. Ask us for a quote. Spryng Care remains the product service included with Research Organization.
Do you offer multi-facilitator seats or institutional team workspaces?
Praxis includes 2 facilitator seats and scales up to 10. Extra seats are $39/seat/mo, the same per-seat price. Teams of 3 to 10 that want to DIY choose Praxis; teams wanting design and facilitation support for one complete study choose Spryng Field Study. Research Organization is for institutions that need assurance, governance, data residency, or procurement documentation.
What security and compliance documentation do you provide?
Research Organization plans include HECVAT and DPA support, UK and EU review support, and custom data residency. The public summary is the security review page. The program is HIPAA-aligned, and a BAA template is available. We share assurance documents during an active procurement review. Your data remains yours, and we do not use it for any other purpose.
Can an enterprise use self-serve plans?
Yes, but the Account Owner is responsible for confirming that the intended use is allowed under applicable laws, participant notice obligations, internal policies, and jurisdiction-specific requirements. Government, regulated, or multi-jurisdictional deployments belong on Research Organization, where that review happens before rollout rather than after.
Are government organizations treated differently?
Yes. Governmental organizations sit with Research Organization for pricing and governance purposes. Public-sector use may involve additional rules, including public records, procurement, accessibility, records retention, security authorization, data classification, statutory notices, or jurisdiction-specific requirements.
Do you support enterprise procurement or security review?
Yes. Research Organization exists for exactly this: it includes a review path for security, privacy, procurement, legal, vendor review, data-processing documentation, audit logging, custom roles, governance configuration, and implementation support. The public summary is the security review page. The program is HIPAA-aligned, and a BAA template is available. HECVAT responses are shared during an active procurement review.
Features and assistants
What is Analysis MCP?
A read-only connection that lets an MCP-compatible assistant ask about studies you can already open in Spryng. Spryng keeps authorization and privacy limits. Included with annual Inquiry, Praxis, Spryng Field Study, and Research Organization. Install the open-source relay from PyPI when your organization has it enabled; setup lives under Analysis → Connect your assistant.
Which plans include assistant connections?
Assistant connections are in preview, with access being enabled as release verification completes. They are included with annual Inquiry and Praxis, Spryng Field Study through annual Praxis, and Research Organization. Monthly Inquiry and Praxis and Event Pass do not include hosted Analysis MCP. Studio users can explore the public sample; Personal Sensemaking remains device-only. The connector download does not grant study access. Your assistant subscription, local hardware and institution-specific deployment are separate.
Does local AI keep all my data on my computer?
Your study and server-side statistics remain on Spryng. With a correctly configured local-only assistant host, model processing happens on your computer. A cloud assistant sends permitted results to its provider. Your assistant controls conversation history. Revoking a connection stops subsequent MCP access; it does not erase results already received. Institution-managed processing is a pilot; managed regional AI is not available in this release.
Are assistant connections the same as AI Pattern Synthesis or Spryng Advisory?
Assistant connections let you use your chosen assistant with read-only access under your existing study permissions. AI Pattern Synthesis remains a separate optional Spryng capability for suggested story groupings. Spryng Advisory provides human guidance on study design, collection and analysis. Spryng Care remains the product service included with Research Organization.
Why not just collect open text in a form and summarize it with a general-purpose AI tool?
A summary reflects the choices of its author or model. In Spryng, each storyteller places their own story on visual scales, so the structure comes from participants rather than from an analyst or a model, and every cluster links back to the original stories. Optional AI features sit alongside this and never replace participants' interpretation.
How is Deep Research sold and delivered? Can our team run it in-house or with a partner?
Deep Research operates as both an institutional software capability and an expert delivery vehicle. Organizations with dedicated in-house research, evaluation, or people analytics teams can license Deep Research directly within Research Organization to conduct multi-perspective synthesis and CoDa simplicial analysis independently. For foundations, non-profits, and agencies seeking external facilitation, cross-silo story jams, or independent third-party evaluation, Deep Research studies are delivered in partnership with external delivery partners.
How do live rooms and collection decks work?
Interactive live rooms and story collection decks enable real-time sensemaking sessions at conferences, offsite retreats, and workshops with instant QR onboarding, live Wardley maps, triads, and dyads. They are included in both the Conference & Workshop Event Pass ($299 one-time) and Praxis subscriptions.
What is Layered Interpretation?
Layered Interpretation lets the same story receive multiple interpretations later, by another role, by a facilitator, or by a sensemaking group. The original participant interpretation remains the protected first layer.
What counts as an active Sensor?
A Sensor is active when it is live for collection or currently being analyzed, reported, or facilitated. Archived Sensors remain available for review but do not count against active allowances unless reopened.
When do I need Insiders or Pseudonymous Panels?
Use Insiders or Pseudonymous Panels when the same person may return, reinterpret their own story, participate in linked follow-up, or remain part of a consented panel over time. Without a continuity model, same-person follow-up should not be promised.
What are Boards and Rooms?
Boards and Rooms give teams a responsible place to review patterns, interpret stories together, turn signals into commitments, and track follow-through without separating action from the story evidence.
What is Journally?
Journally gives participants a personal space for ongoing reflection. It is useful when people need to keep stories over time and selectively share reflections into projects.
What are Pseudonymous Panels?
Pseudonymous Panels are consented insider pools that support continuity, linked follow-up, re-contact, participation history, and withdrawal without exposing identities by default.
Does Spryng use AI?
Spryng's AI-assisted features are transcription, translation and redaction of responses, and the optional AI Pattern Synthesis add-on. Each is optional. An account owner can ask us to turn any of them off for their organization by emailing privacy@spryng.io, and we confirm in writing when it is done. Turning off AI redaction does not turn off rule-based redaction.
